How to care for your candle

Giving your candle the best start in life.

When lighting your candle for the first time, try to allow the wax to melt all the way to the edges of the glass. The time taken to achieve this can vary because of the way wooden wicks perform and because of the characteristics of the natural products we use. For safety don't burn for more than 4 hours trying to achieve a full 'melt pool', if it doesn't happen in 4 hours it may just take a few burns to melt completely - it will catch up. This won't affect the performance of your candle so don't worry if this happens.

Our candles like to burn ..... but not all day.

For optimal performance you should always try to burn your candle for a minimum of 60 minutes so the flame gets chance to melt the wax evenly and not create a 'tunnel' BUT no longer than 4 hours to protect against the container getting too hot.

Trim your Wick to have a long-lived candle.

Ensure the wick is trimmed to a length of about 5mm (just under 1/4 inch for you imperial people) before each time you re-light your Yugen candle. Black residue may appear on the glass if the wick does not get trimmed because the flame will be too big and hot and therefore will likely smoke. If you forget to do this and get some residue it can easily be wiped off with a napkin. Cleaning off the residue (or not - you don't have to) won't impact the performance or quality of your experience but repeatedly failing to trim the wick will result in hotter flames melting away the wax more quickly and will reduce the life of your candle.

Natural, handmade and perfectly imperfect.

All Yugen products are made in small batches and hand poured by us, one by one. Due to the nature of being a natural wax, some unevenness may occur. "Frosting" and "sweating" are absolutely normal in soy wax and once you relight your candle, they will fade.
